In order to promote the scientific and academic career of outstanding young scholars, the Foundation for Research and Development of the University of Lugano (USI) advertises a position of Assistant Professor in Regional Economics with tenure track

Profile
The ideal candidate is a young scholar under the age of 40, with a PhD degree and relevant experience in academic teaching and research corroborated by top-quality articles in acclaimed international journals and/or by books with world-known publishers. Also, he or she would be expected to build up an appropriate curriculum to become eligible for a chair in the Swiss university system.

A good command of English and preferably of one Swiss national language is a requisite.
Duties
Developing and carrying out research projects in any area or specialization of regional economics, with particular attention to the research programmes supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and by the European Union.
The candidates will also be involved in lecturing, on the basis of the study curriculum, at either undergraduate or graduate level for a maximum of 3 hours weekly each semester.
Salary and contract conditions
The appointment is for three years, and the faculty guarantees an evaluation for tenure during this period.
The salary will be defined on the basis of the university scale, according to academic experience and skills.
The current position comes with two PhD student posts, financed according to the University’s rules and regulations.
Residence
As the appointees must be present on campus to carry out their research, it is highly desirable for them to establish their main residence in Lugano or in the region.

- A brief (2-4 pages) draft proposal for a three-year research project
- A curriculum vitae including copy of all academic degrees and diplomas, certificates of any past teaching and management activities, and a full list of publications
- Copy of 5 to 10 publications that the candidate considers especially relevant to the present submission and best embody his/her scientific achievements
- Two letters of reference by academics
