Recent times have witnessed a profound transformation of the world economic, political and social order because of globalization. The growing integration of economies and societies around the world – has been one of the most hotly-debated topics over the past few years. Today, globalization appears to dictate development strategies at the national and sub-national levels resulting into renewed interest in regionalization. Globalization has generated significant opposition over concerns that it has increased inequality and environmental degradation. There is also need to re-look and deliberate on the conceptualization, roles, and position of "regional priorities" in a development scenario that is becoming very global. 40th Annual Regional Science conference and the International Regional Science Symposium will try to address these issues with a focal theme of "Global Issues and Regional Priorities". It will bring together national and international scholars, researchers, policy/decision makers, and others interested in the regional aspects of development in the era of globalization. Focal Theme Global Issues and Regional Priorities The following are the major sub themes of the conference: Redefining and Locating "Regions" in a Global era New Frontiers in Regional Science: Theory and Methodology Regional Economic Modeling and Spatial Econometrics Spatial Statistics and Econometrics Geographical Information Systems and Spatial Analysis (GIS & RS) Regional Issues (at Sub-national and/or Supra-regional levels) Water and other resources New Technologies, Technology Transfer and ICT Agglomerations, Networks and Linkages Regional Sustainable Development Regionalization Vs Globalization: Governance and Sustainable Development Globalization versus Regionalization Regional Cooperation, Conflicts Globalization and Regional Competitiveness Infrastructure Sustainable Development and Global Warming New Technologies and Innovation New Forms of Territorial Governance Governance of Urban Regions and Rural Areas Call for Abstracts and Papers Interested scholars are invited to write and present their papers in the conference. The last date for submission of Abstracts and Full papers is December 15, 2008. The paper should be in MS – word format in Times New Roman with font size 12. and should not exceed 15 pages.
