Recent times have witnessed a profound transformation of the world economic, political and social order because of globalization. The growing integration of economies and societies around the world – has been one of the most hotly-debated topics over the past few years. Today, globalization appears to dictate development strategies at the national and sub-national levels resulting into renewed interest in regionalization. Globalization has generated significant opposition over concerns that it has increased inequality and environmental degradation. There is also need to re-look and deliberate on the conceptualization, roles, and position of "regional priorities" in a development scenario that is becoming very global.
