Leon N. Moses, 1924 – 2013

 

Leon N. Moses, Professor Emeritus, Department of Economics, Northwestern University, died on October 12, 2013.

 

Professor Moses was the 15th person to serve as President of the Regional Science Association, 1972-73. He came to Northwestern from Harvard in 1959, and retired in 2005. He was Department Chair, 1970-72, and Director of the Transportation Center, 1974 to 1979.

 

Dr. Ian Savage, Associate Department Chair of Economics and Distinguished Senior Lecturer, remarked: ‘Leon was a very colorful character, but also a generous and loyal person.’

 

Dr. Savage wrote a professional biography of Professor Moses for the Biographical Dictionary of American Economists, which described his substantial contributions to transportation, urban economics and regional science:
