Regional Productivity Workshop

The Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) invites research paper submissions for the "Regional Productivity Workshop".

The deadline for submissions is August 15th, 2015.

The workshop will be held on October 16-17, 2015, at the CIDE Aguascalientes.

This workshop seeks to gather a group of researchers, teachers, students and practitioners of regional policy working in regional economy productivity topics to discuss research done in the field and to build a network of Latin American economics interested in regional productivity.

 Scholarly articles with a focus on policy issues in Latin America are especially encourage, but any work with focus on productivity is welcome. Papers can present the results of research, discuss conceptual approaches to policy implications, describe work in progress or raise issues for debate.

Structure of the sessions:

The Workshop includes two invited speakers who will open the session of each day and one invited speaker to talk during the Young Researchers Session.

Presenters of selected papers will have30 minutes to discuss their work and take questions. Presentations are intended to identify pressing public policy issues and emerging research themes in regional economic productivity.

At the Young Researchers Session (YRS) (October 16th) new entrants in the field will have their papers discussed by senior colleagues.  The papers in the YRS will be assigned extra time (45 minutes including discussion). PhD students or recent PhD holding their degree for at most 3 years may qualify as Young Researchers. Full Papers should be submitted via the conference's website, choosing the Young Researchers' option.

The workshop will also provide networking and professional development opportunities for faculty and graduate students who are interested in pursuing research in Latin America´s regional economic issues.

1st Day

1.- Opening Ceremony: Dr. Geoff Hewings (University of Illinois)

Title: "Enhancing productivity: a solution to the problem of ageing population"

2.- Young Researchers Session:  Dr. Antonio Álvarez Pinilla (Universidad de Oviedo)

Title: "Modelling Challenges in Regional Productivity"

3.- Lunch

4.- 1st group of sessions

2nd day

5.- Opening Session: Dr Mark Partridge (University of Ohio)

Title: "Are the Most Productive Regions Necessarily the Most Successful?"

6.- 2nd group of sessions

7.- Lunch

8.- Round table discussion and closure of the Workshop ( with the 3 speakers)

Title: "Regional Productivity: Going Forward"

Costs:

There is no fee, but registration to the workshop is required by September 10, 2015.

CIDE will offer a limited number of full grants to cover travel expenses. Those interested in a full grant should mention it when sending the paper and a current CV.

Language:

All Workshop sessions will be held in English.
